Looking After Your Resin Bound Surface

Resin bound driveways and patios are durable and low maintenance. They are easy to look after and will remain looking stylish with just a little basic cleaning.

To avoid damaging your driveway or patio:

  • Avoid placing heavy objects such as skips on your resin-bound surface
  • Do not leave a vehicle in the same spot for a prolonged period

Maintenance Tips For Resin Bound Driveways

Brush the surface with a stiff broom to remove leaves, dirt, dust and excess moisture. This will prevent moss growth.

A light jet washing after the surface has been brushed will refresh the resin. No chemicals should be used.

Clean Up Oil and Fuel Spillages

Any vehicle leak can be unsightly, particularly on an otherwise pristine driveway. Act quickly to fully remove oil or fuel marks. Start by washing off the spillage with soapy water and then flush away with a light pressure wash.

Larger oil spills might require a degreasing agent, but testing any chemicals on a small, tucked-away area is important before committing to use.
WARNING – DO NOT USE BOILING WATER ON A RESIN SURFACE as it can dissolve the resin and create a hole in the surface.

Remove Tyre Marks

Resin bound driveways are at risk of showing tyre marks, particularly if they are a lighter colour. These marks usually occur if the wheels are turned when stationary or following a long drive where the tires are warm.

Using washing-up liquid soap followed by a light pressure wash should remove any marks.

Regular Jet Washing

A periodical light pressure washing is advisable. Ensure you don’t use excessive pressure – up to 150 bar is recommended – to avoid damage to the resin surface.

Always keep the jet washer nozzle at least 20 cm away from the surface.

Remove Algae and Moss

Algae and moss usually only grow in shaded, damp areas. This will not be an issue if your driveway benefits from sunshine all day.

Plants or shrubbery could be reduced to let sunlight in and reduce growth. In most cases, regular brushing and power washing will be sufficient to prevent any algae or moss.

If your resin bound surface does experience any growth, a solution of bleach and a light power wash should be enough to get rid of it.

Snow Removal

Use a plastic snow shovel for snow removal, rather than a metal one that could damage the surface.

Ice Removal

The use of salt or sand to prevent ice is not problematic on a resin bound surface. Once the cold weather has passed, the surface should be cleaned by a light pressure wash.

Chewing Gum Removal

Using hard tools to scrape off the gum is not advisable, as this could damage the surface. We recommend that you use a freezing spray, and then pull off the gum very carefully.
